YAG laser posterior capsulotomy is a non-invasive laser procedure that is used to eliminate the cloudiness that occassionally interferes with a patient’s vision after cataract surgery. YAG laser is used to cut a hole in the clouded back lining of the lens capsule in order to allow the light to pass through the membrane to the retina at the back of the eye.

YAG laser is used to treat posterior capsule opacity safely, effectively and painlessly. It is an outpatient procedure and a modern technique of cataract surgery. The main goal of YAG laser posterior capsulotomy is to reduce the glare and improve vision. The actual procedure only takes about five minutes. The patient can make out an improvement as soon as the pupil, which is dilated, goes back to its normal size after this procedure is done.
